Whittan Supports The Community

Whittan supports the community through cost-of-living crisis

As times get tough for many people through the cost-of-living crisis, it’s more important than ever to help each other where we can. Over the Christmas period, we were fortunate enough to be able to give back to those who give so much to our local community.

Two organisations close to Whittan's heart are Telford Crisis Support Centre and The Trussell Trust. Through their food banks they provide vital support to those in need. We made the decision to make donations to these two causes rather than buy and send Christmas cards this year, and we’d like to thank members of staff across all of our eight trusted brands for their generous contributions.

Telford Crisis Support Centre

Telford Crisis Support is an independent, volunteer-led, holistically focused charity, striving to be more than a foodbank. In 2021 alone, they provided approximately 121,000 meals for individuals and families in the community. The organisation operates from Halesfield where they distribute and deliver across the borough of Telford and Wrekin.

We helped the charity earlier in 2022 with a shelving donation to get their new facility up and running and it was great to support them again over the Christmas period with food and essentials. Whittan’s locker team in Telford organised the collection, with a wide variety of items received from across the business.

Simon Lellow from Telford Crisis Support comments on the donation: “On behalf of the volunteers, the staff and the trustees at Telford Crisis Support, we’d like to thank everyone at Whittan for their help over the last 12 months. All of your donations and your kind support has made a real difference to what we do. Thank you on behalf of everyone in the community who has benefited from this too.”

The Trussell Trust

The Trussell Trust supports a nationwide network of food banks and provides emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, and campaigns for change to end the need for food banks in the UK. With more than 1,200 food bank centres in the Trust’s network, they support three days’ nutritionally-balanced emergency food to people who have been referred in crisis.

Fionna Edgeley, Polypal Commercial Manager at Whittan, comments: “With the current cost-of-living crisis, staff at Polypal, one of Whittan’s trusted brands, decided to cut costs on sending each other Christmas cards so that we could use the money to donate to the local food bank for the festive season. The bank is run by The Trussell Trust who rely on 90% of donations from the public so support is vital to the ability of giving everyone referred to them a balanced and nutritious supply of good food.

“We wanted to make a small difference for people who are facing poverty because they simply can’t make ends meet, for the families struggling to feed their children, for the older people in our communities who have never felt as lonely as they do now and for the people who are homeless and trying to get back on their feet.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Polypal for their very generous support and contribution with this project, and hope to donate more food throughout the year.”

Please see some images on the right of our donations being gratefully received at each of the organisations.
