Buy British Day

Whittan Celebrates Buy British Day

On 3rd October we want everyone to join us in celebrating Buy British Day! After all, following on from Brexit, COVID and now rising costs, it’s been tough out there for businesses. This year we want to remind you to buy something British and support our UK businesses!

Buy British Day is an annual event that asks us to look at how we can support our local economy and buy from a British business – whether that’s through buying from a local shop, supporting a craft-maker or supporting our UK manufacturing industries.

UK Manufacturing

Ever since the industrial revolution in the 19th century, the UK has had a long and successful history when it comes to manufacturing, recognised across the world for its quality production. In 2019, the sector was worth approximately £393 million, and we are currently the 9th largest manufacturer in the world by output. It is also good for job prospects and currently accounts for about 8.2% of the workforce with the Midlands holding the highest proportion of employees in manufacturing.

We should know a thing or two about that because Whittan’s roots are buried deep within the region. Our industry leading brand Link51 was set up over 70 years ago in the heart of England’s industrial ‘Black Country’ and we are still manufacturing from the same factory today!! In fact, we are the UK’s largest manufacturer of steel shelving, pallet racking and lockers!

Proud to be British Manufacturers

Since 1951 Whittan has been helping businesses across a vast range of sectors with their storage needs. But did you know that working with a UK based company has some significant advantages for our customers:

  • We offer a turnkey service and can easily manage your projects from start to finish.
  • Whether you need a couple of bays for a small unit or a mass storage solution for a mega shed, we have the flexibility to deliver exactly what you need no matter how small the order.
  • Our products are manufactured in the UK which means shorter lead times and less risk in the supply chain.
  • We don’t have as far to travel so there are fewer delays or disruptions to your timelines – they can quickly become expensive!
  • Getting your products from the UK will significantly reduce your carbon footprint.
  • We are never far away from your site and can respond quickly if any problems arise.

Meeting British Industry Standards

We’re so proud of our British heritage that we wanted to make our mark. That’s why we became part of ‘Made in Britain’. The internationally recognised registered trademark promotes and acknowledges the very best of British manufacturing and stands for quality, value, safety, and high standards. This offers buyers reassurance that whenever they see the Made in Britain mark it means the manufacturer has met the high quality criteria to become a member.

Proving the quality of our work doesn’t stop with the Made in Britain mark. Our products have also been independently tested by experts and conform to British Standards. As a member of the British Safety Council, we are committed to keeping people safe and healthy in the workplace.

We are also members of the Storage Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) which is committed to raising safety and quality standards within the warehousing industry. As a Full Manufacturing SEMA Member our storage systems are submitted to independent product assessments to guarantee they meet industry standards and will perform as intended under specified conditions.

Support a British company today

By selecting a racking and storage supplier whose own strict safety, health, environment, and quality practices are a priority. Whittan’s customers will know that buying from them, they too are assured of those same exceptional standards in the products, equipment, and services they choose.

Why don’t you do your bit on Buy British Day and make a move towards supporting a British company like Whittan!
