What does your job involve?
Day-to-day planning and running of the paint line department, making sure that health and safety standards are maintained, standard operation procedures are being adhered to and provide staff training where necessary. I also head cell meetings, where as a department we will discuss subjects such as health and safety, quality, department performance, company information and we also cover actionable department issues, like the repair of machinery or equipment.
Have you progressed since starting with Whittan. What has been your career path?
I began working in the press shop for a couple of years, but then I transferred to the paint department as a Paint line operative. I also received gun training, training with the jig stripper, training on chemical checks on pre-wash tanks, counter-balance and side loader trucks, plus an IPAF with the mobile vertical truck and boom telescopic and line running too. After a number of years in the department, I then took on the team co-ordinator role, which was mainly a mixture of line running and supervisor support. I did this up until a year ago, when I was given the role of team leader, which I’ve enjoyed thoroughly.
What do you enjoy about your job?
I’m still quite new to the role, but the main thing I enjoy is its challenges. I feel I’m learning all the time and it’s very satisfying to make positive changes in the department, be it for health and safety or improvements on our processes.
What do you like about the company?
I appreciate the challenges and responsibilities the company has offered me over the years and the support I’ve received on a daily basis.
